Are You a Procrastinator?

money Are you the type of person who waits until the very last second to get things done? Are you wearing your last pair of clean socks when you do your laundry, and are you chasing the garbage truck down the street with the last sack from the bathroom trash? Do you put off making important phone calls until later, only then to realize it’s midnight, and too late to call at all? This is all right … sometimes … if you don’t mind living this way, but in other circumstances, it can be very detrimental.

If you’re late paying your bills, not only does that show up on your credit rating, but it can give you a bad reputation with the utility company and with your landlord, making them less eager to work with you when you have a problem.

If you don’t write down your expenses as you incur them, believing that you’ll do it later, you might forget that you can deduct that expensive meal, and pay more in taxes than you should.

If you are tardy in remitting your income tax paperwork, you’ll have to file an extension, and face possible fees.

Persons who are punctual with their finances basically find that their lives are a little easier. They don’t dread balancing their checkbook, because it’s already done. They know how much money they have because they have already totaled their receipts. They avoid costly late fees, their relationships are good, and their business associates have a greater level of trust in them.

If you were to pick one area of your life in which to improve your propensity toward procrastination, I would strongly suggest that you take a look at your finances and see if you could benefit from moving a little more quickly when it comes to your money. The savings in late fees alone could be well worth your time.
