Are You Letting God Speak to You?

Did you read God’s Word this morning? Or was it a week ago, a month maybe longer since you opened the bible and allowed God to speak to you? Are you thankful each day for the great blessing of being able to read God’s Word? Do you realize what a privilege and joy it is to be able to do this?

For many people in our world this is not the reality because they do not have a bible in their own language.

In 2006, for the first time in South Eastern Mexico, 200,000 Huasteca Nahuatl (pronounced Was-te-ca Nah What-l) were able to know the great blessing of opening God’s Word in their own language and have God speak directly to them. Can you imagine what a joy that is? How would you feel if you could never read God’s Word in your own language? Wouldn’t you feel cut off from God? For many people in our world this is the case.

Bible translation is an ongoing and important work. Gone are the days when access to God’s Word was limited to a select few. Now, everyone deserves to be able to read God’s Word for themselves. Given the efforts of Wycliffe Bible translators and years of translation, the Huasteca Nahuatl finally have that privilege.

‘Bible League is the major publisher of Scriptures translated by Wycliffe Bible Translators.’ Since their partnership started in 1962, they have distributed Scriptures in more than 700 languages. But there are still people waiting to receive God’s Word in their own language. Perhaps this Christmas your gift might be to help those without God’s Word finally receive it in their own language.

Some year back my daughter left her bible behind at a camp or a church she visited, she was not sure exactly where it got put down and left. She was devastated because her bible is a workbook as well as a witness to her life and the way God has brought her through good times and bad. Although we bought her another bible, it wasn’t the same. Like her mother, she has dates and notes next to verses where God has spoken to her in a specific situation. My bible is peppered with dates which can be cross referenced against then numerous quiet time journals I have, so I can always look back and see exactly what God was doing in my life at the time and the lessons He taught me.

If you haven’t discovered the joy of keeping a journal for your quiet times and bible readings, can I suggest it is an invaluabke tool that will bring great blessing, improve your quiet time and make the bible come alive to you. When you’re feeling down and struggling in your faith, you will be able to look back and see how God has been at work in your life and be encouraged.
