Christmas morning can be a flurry of activity. From kids who wake you up before the sun to a mad dash to capture everything on camera, the time can be hectic. You don’t want to spend that time under stress. Be prepared, and you’ll have a wonderfully enjoyable Christmas morning.
Get the PJs ready
Some families make a tradition to go to sleep the night before in new pajamas. I think this is a great idea. Who wants to show up in all of those holiday photos wearing ratty sweats, baggy PJs or a torn robe?
Prepare an easy breakfast
Load the coffee maker the night before, and stock the house with something easy to make, such as refrigerated cinnamon buns, fresh fruit, instant hot chocolate, pre-made pancakes, or a breakfast that you can put into the slow cooker the night before. Make sure you have some paper products, too, so you won’t have to slow down to do dishes.
Put together a Christmas Morning basket
Stock a basket with Christmas morning essentials, such as your still camera, video camera, scissors, a box cutter, a notepad and pen (so you can write down who gave you which gift and then later thank friends and relatives for their generosity), trash bags, small storage bags (such as Ziploc bags) to store small pieces of games and toys or gift receipts, batteries, and a Santa hat.
Put the phone on hold
Shut the ringer off of the phone before you go to bed. No doubt you will have many friends and relatives calling to wish you a Merry Christmas, but be a little selfish and forget about the phone until after the presents are open, the photos taken and the family has gotten a chance to be together.
Have your Christmas outfits laid out
If you are planning on leaving the house in the afternoon for church or visiting, make it easy on yourself by having your outfits already chosen and laid out. This way, getting dressed will be easy, and you won’t feel the pressure of running late.
