If you’re a fan of reality television, you’re probably familiar with Big Brother — the show where strangers are put in a house together for the world to watch. Cameras capture every move as one by one, the contestants are voted out of the house.
In preparation for the third annual Speck-Spektakel in Helfenberg, Austria, the town is hosting their own version of Big Brother — featuring four piglets. “Pig Brother” stars Piggy, Lilly, Pauli, and Fredi competing for the title of Super Pig at Helfenberg’s Speck-Spektakel (Bacon Trade Fair).
Between now and the June festival, you can watch the four piglets live online by visiting the Pig Brother site. The cast is identified by colored tags on the left ear — Lilly (the current points leader) in blue, Piggy in pink, Pauli in yellow, and Fredi in green.
The site also allows you to pick and support your favorite pig in five weeks of Pig Olympics. Registered users can feed their favorite pig virtual potatoes; each week, the pig with the most potatoes is the PIg of the Week. After the five Sunday competitions, the piglet with the most points will be crowned Super Pig. Human visitors to the site can register to win prizes like tickets to the Bacon Trade Fair.
The four contestants on Pig Brother live on a family owned farm that dates back to the 1750s. While the online pigs-eye-view won’t show you much of the rest of the land, the farm is also home to cows and calves, pigeons, hens, and cats. You can catch a glimpse of farm owner Andreas Bindeus in opening credits on the Pig Brother video clips.
Though I could watch the video clips just fine, I couldn’t see anything on the live Pig Brother cam. But I’ll keep trying — this is one reality show I could really relate to. Rolling in the mud… sleeping… eating… a pig’s life sounds good to me!
