Are You Ready for Some More Turkey Crafts?

Okay, I looked through the boxes of stuff my kids have made at school over the years, through the stuff we used to make at the preschool where I used to work, and I’ve looked around online. Blending some of these craft ideas together has helped me come up with some stuff that I think you will like.

Here’s one idea, but please check back for others:

Turkey Wreath

Did you ever make chains from construction paper? This starts out like that. You just need do make small loops and use orange, yellow, red, and brown paper. Cut strips of paper about 2” wide and about 5” long and glue (or tape) the ends together to form loops. Instead of stringing them together like a chain, you want to glue them together side by side around the outside edge of a foam plate or heavy duty paper plate (look for plates in festive colors, and you can cut out the center of the plate if you like, so it looks more like a wreath). You can add additional rings of loops, smaller or larger, if you like.

Draw a pear shape on brown construction paper and cut it out. This is going to be the turkeys head and neck. Glue on some googly eyes. Crumble up a small piece of red construction paper and glue it on below the eyes. Glue the bottom of the pear shape to the bottom center of the plate.

Use a hole punch to make a hole at the top center and thread some string or ribbon through it to hang up your wreath.

Thanksgiving turkey wreathsFor a variation on this idea, glue assorted pinecones around the edge of the plate instead of loops of paper. You can also use a large pinecone for the turkey’s head instead of paper. I like the pinecone one best. If you prefer a colorful turkey, you can try the idea above or paint some of the pinecones.
