Are you ready for the commitment?

Losing weight is a commitment.  Not like the commitment of watching American Idol for a few weeks.  More like the commitment you give to the army.  It can be grueling, exhausting, and frustration.  Many give up before they really begin.  No one wants to be uncomfortable and as soon as that first bead of sweat appears it is time to jump ship for many on a weight loss journey.  If only losing weight was as easy as gaining weight, huh?  Upon looking in the mirror you may think you are ready to put forth the effort.  However, is that thought real or just in the moment?  Are you ready for a life change?

Losing weight is a commitment to a better lifestyle not a way to fit into a pair of jeans.  If you are solely looking to fit back into a size 4, then perhaps you are not ready for the life change involved in losing weight.  Sure, you may see some success and may even get down to a size 8 or 6.  But if the commitment is not to a new lifestyle that size 8 will quickly become an 18.  If you set  your mind on pants sizes you will frustrate yourself and find little motivation to continue on your path to weight loss.  Your goals need to be bigger, so to speak, than what you see in the mirror.

Take careful consideration about the steps you will be making.  Perhaps you are not ready to give it all you have.  If not, be honest with yourself.  You don’t want to diet for a few days and then binge out of a sense of failure because you couldn’t take it anymore.  If  you must, take it slow.  Every day make a decision to do something healthy.  Trade in water for a soda.  Take the stairs instead of the elevator.  Drink tea instead of a bowl of ice cream.  Find small successes for what your mind is able to conquer.  You will know when the time is right to give it all you have.
