Recently, I was chatting with a friend of mine and she was sharing with me some advice that SHE had recently received from one of her business mentors– “Stop trying so hard!” I thought that seemed completely counter-productive until she explained how exhausting and self-defeating trying to control everything and anything can actually be!
She explained that her mentor had told her that there is a big difference between trying to “make” things happen and trying to “help” things happen. In running a home business, this really comes down to the old adage of doing the best you can and then trusting that things will happen the way they are meant to. I was reminded of Traci’s Blog earlier in the month about whether we are multi-tasking or doing several things poorly all at one time. Controlling behaviors can make us feel as though we are being really productive when we’re actually trying to force things along that we really DO NOT have control over.
I know, this just doesn’t fit the image of the hard-driving, hard-working entrepreneur. But, in fact, we can still be incredibly hard working and be putting our energy into the right places, and then letting go and watching the wondrous results unfold. We don’t have to force and pound and drive every minute of every day to get results in our business. Think of times in your life when you’ve let go and found the world actually came to you or the payoff was around the corner only AFTER you relaxed a little.
So, maybe the best thing you can do for your home business today is to take a little time off, play with the kids, go for that walk or on that picnic–trust that your hard work is already working for you and LET your business grow.
