I apologized to the teacher and was getting ready to leave, when she turned to me and asked if we could make a different two to four year old art class in October. Relieved, I told her absolutely and she overrode the already booked class to squeeze in our son!
I was still very annoyed at myself for getting the class time wrong and it was clear that our son was very disappointed that we missed his class. We decided that we should take advantage of our failed outing and enjoy the sculptures outside as well as the gardens, which I did not know existed. Our son ducked under sculptures, hid behind others, and ran around structures of all kinds. While my husband and son ran around taking pictures, I sat with our daughter trying to figure out how on earth I missed the proper start time on three separate occasions! I finally decided to let it go and I went to find “the boys.” My husband had our son sitting in a cut out brick window and was taking his picture. Leaving the sculpture gardens, we meandered our way to the rose gardens that were tucked between clusters of trees. The rose gardens were laid out in a maze of interconnected circles. Our son seemed to enjoy running around and up and back through all the circles while the rest of us walked down the center smelling the roses. There were benches placed throughout the gardens providing the perfect resting spot as we moved from garden to garden. All the while, our son is running up, down, through, and around the roses, occasionally stopping to smell the roses. We tried to snap some photos of our very fast moving son (only a few turned out). After a good forty five minutes we decided to head home for some lunch.
Even though our son (and honestly myself included) was still disappointed that he did not get to paint and bring home art pieces, he did enjoy his time outside running to his heart’s content!
