If you have a blog, or you’ve ever thought about starting one, you should take at look at the Artful Blogging: Visually Inspiring Online Journals magazine. I promise it will inspire your blogging and your creative impulses. The magazine talks about the importance of blogging, about how it makes you pay attention to your day and your life, about how you start noticing things you might have glance over before.
Artful Blogging highlights truly creative blogs. Each blog gets a few page spread, along with color photos from their blog entries, and often the stories behind why the blogger started blogging, and what it’s meant to them. I find it really amazing and inspiring to read about these journeys of self-discovery and community. The featured blogs are from crafters, artists, photographers, and writers. All the blogs inspire me to be more creative. You will find people who specialize in knitting, sewing, doll making, stamping, altered art, beading, illustrating, painting, paper cutting arts, photography, and poetry.
In the magazine, the bloggers talk about their goals, finding a community of likeminded people, and growing as creative individuals.
The magazine is published four times a year. It’s a new publication; the Summer 2008 issue is only their second issue. I will warn you that this is an expensive subscription. It costs $59.99 for four issues a year though the publisher. Through Amazon the magazine costs $69.99 for a year. I bought my copies at the craft store, using a 40% off coupon on the cover price of $14.99. It’s a little more reasonable that way. The publication is almost 150 pages, and includes nice stiff pages (not your average magazine paper), and lots of beautiful photographs. I’m sure it costs a lot more than average to produce.
If you want an a more artful approach to your own blog, or just want to discover some wonderful new blogs, give this publication a try.
