Many home offices are little more than a nook or small space used for working from home to bring work home from a 9 to 5. Even those you have a separate room just for the home office tend to find that it collects unused pieces from around the rest of the home instead of being a designed space and having a personality of its own. Yet, even if you have a great home office, maybe it could use some artwork.
So, what types of art work best in a home office? There are too many variables to count, but overall, artwork should be soothing or inspiring. Art that makes you feel calm will decrease your stress level while inspirational artwork will help you be more productive.
For soothing artwork, think watercolors or other soft shades and consider floral or landscape prints. If you like something a bit more modern, consider geometric shapes with soft or blended edges, in calming colors. An enlarged photo of your yard on a gorgeous summer day might even do the trick.
As for inspiration, what does it for you? As a writer, painter, and decorator, I like the tools of my trades. I’m picturing an old quill, paintbrushes splashed with bright drops of paint, pictures of gorgeous homes or rooms from the pages of decorating magazines.
If you are in sales, maybe add some images of your favorite products to your home office. Some people are inspired by supporting their families and add family photos to the office. For others, family photos may be distracting as they take on the difficult task of separating work stuff from home stuff while working at home.
Your personality and taste both play a big role in the types of artwork that will calm and inspire you. Don’t forget artistic accessories, sculptures, and clocks. Visit a showroom or look online for art pieces, paintings, photos, and prints and see if any “speak” to you.
