It might’ve had a fairy tale ending, but the theme of Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s wedding was based on a more bizarre children’s tale: Alice in Wonderland.
No surprise there given that the newlyweds are self-professed fans of the “twisted, unique and unusual.”
Another non-surprise: the wedding date. Ever since Wentz proposed to his pregnant gal pal last month rumors have been flying that the two would be marrying this weekend at her parent’s Southern California home.
And so it came to be… last night the singer and her Fall Out Boy bassist fiancé wed in front of 150 close friends and family members, including Ashlee’s sister Jessica (who served as maid of honor), Jessica’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, as well as actor Donald Faison and his girlfriend CaCee Cobb.
The 23-year-old bride reportedly wore an ivory lace wedding gown by Monique Lluillier and accessorized with a diamond necklace and earrings by Neil Lane. Her 28-year-old groom wore a dark suit while his English bulldog, Hemingway served as the ring bearer. Rounding out the family affair was the bride’s father Joe Simpson, who actually performed the non-denominational ceremony under a white tent in his own backyard.
According to PEOPLE magazine (which I’m sure dropped at least $1 million to exclusively snap and publish pics of the nuptials, but won’t admit to it until later this week), Ashlee hired wedding planer to the stars Mindy Weiss to create an Alice in Wonderland themed reception. The over-the-top party featured a wedding cake, which featured a top hat, tea pot, stop watch and a pot of flowers on top and dozens of centerpieces dripping with black beauty roses to give the reception a “dark” feel.
Reports from wedding insiders say shortly after they cut the cake the newlyweds officially announced Ashlee’s pregnancy and her October due date.
The couple began dating in the fall of 2006 and announced their engagement last month—-right around the time a slew of publications speculated that the singer was expecting Wentz’s baby.
