Someone sent me a private message saying, “I noticed that you only write articles about breastfeeding. Why don’t you write anything about formula? Are you anti-formula?
I figured that if one person had this question, perhaps more of our baby readers did as well. I will start by saying that I am absolutely, 100% NOT against formula. It provides a needed alternative to moms who can’t or shouldn’t breastfeed and I do recognize that. So why do I write all of the breastfeeding articles?
Reason #1
Most of the articles I write for baby are on the topics of multiples and breastfeeding. Why? I have twins. . .and I have been breastfeeding for almost eight years straight. (Although not the same child!) I know lots about having twin babies and lots about breastfeeding. So while I’m not against formula feeding, writing about it requires a little more research.
Secondly, as I’ve joined forums, people have come to learn that I know a lot about breastfeeding. Consequently, my inbox is often filled with questions about breastfeeding or in other ways topics are suggested to me that people would like to read about. For some reason, no one ever asks me about formula!
Reason #2
I never understood how a woman could give up ‘so easily’ on breastfeeding until I had a baby that was horrible to breastfeed. It was only because she was not my first, that I did not give up. I already had an idea of what to do and how to do it. I knew where to find support and I knew what it should feel like.
Too many women who give up on breastfeeding give up because they lack the support they need to continue. What’s worse is they feel guilty about it! I hope that by writing a lot of good information on breastfeeding, someone reading will be able to find the support they need to keep going. It is often not easy to find that support and we moms need all the help we can get.
I am not anti-formula! I am pro-mom, pro-baby, pro-good parenting, and pro-simplifying life. I am definitely anti-guilt! With that said, you are certainly welcome to ask any questions about formula that you may have. In fact, someone already did and you can look soon for a blog about what exactly is in formula.
