Ask and Ye Shall Receive

Need something? Sure you can go out and spend money for it, but chances are that there is a way to get it for free, just by asking. Here is how.

Need some hangers for your closet? Whenever you buy any clothing from a store, ask them if you can have the the hangers that go with the items. You can even ask for extra hangers. Most retailers are only too happy to give away all of their extra hangers, if you just ask.

And this is a tip that is especially apt at this time of year, in the middle of the holiday season. Instead of going out and buying gift boxes, just ask the store when you purchase your gifts. Many people don’t realize that a store will give you gift boxes for free. Most stores don’t advertise this service or ask you if you want boxes when they ring you up. Never the less, they usually have the boxes available. And if someone at the cashier counter can’t help you, head over to customer service. Many times, the store will throw in some tissue paper, as well.

Speaking of boxes, do you need some for storage of your Christmas ornaments or to wrap large presents? Head over to your local bookstore and ask for some boxes. They have all shapes and sizes of boxes and are happy to give them away. Just ask for the manager. I did this to stock up on boxes before we moved.

Envelopes can be had for free from your local card store. For some reason, card stores wind up with plenty of extra envelopes that have separated from their cards. Whenever the store turns over a card section, such as after the holidays, they will have plenty of envelopes in all colors and sizes. Just ask the next time you are in the store.
