The world has always had a fascination with the lost city of Atlantis. Over time tons of short stories, books, and movie have been made about the city and even more have referenced the underwater city. It seems almost fitting that among the sea of books and movies there would be a Walt Disney movie showing their take on the story.
In Walt Disney’s “Atlantis: The Lost Empire”, Milo Thatch is scholar who attempts to fulfill his late grandfathers quest to locate the city of Atlantis. After getting some money from a friend Milo heads underwater in a submarine to search for the city. During the journey the crew encounters a variety of different obstacles before they finally are able to reach the city. When Milo finally arrives he discovers that the city of Atlantis is where he truly belongs, and he has to defend the city against those he came with.
This movie is not your typically animated Disney movie. There is a large amount of violence and peril, and several of the main characters in the movie are killed during some of the action scenes. This movie actually received a PG rating rather than G, which is pretty rare for animated films.
Younger children may find the violence and peril in this movie a little too much to handle. I would stray away from watching it with a child under the age of eight or nine. The animation in the movie is good however, and the story is very entertaining. If your child can handle the violence with no problem then it can be a fun movie to watch on a rainy day at home. Michael J Fox is the voice of Milo, which can be pretty fun as well.
