If you want something fun to do this weekend or even through next week, consider attending a tree lighting. Now is the time for this fun event in many communities across the country.
A tree lighting us just that, the witnessing of the lighting of a Christmas tree in the community. Often it occurs at town park, a town square or other significant location in your town or city. Often, there are other events taking place as part of the event, such as music, carols, games and other forms of entertainment. There may be the opportunity to add your own ornament to the tree as well.
Often, especially with smaller towns as opposed to cities, the tree lighting is followed by lightrefreshments, such as hot chocolate and cookies, cider or coffee or even cheese and wine. This all depends, of course, on the location of the tree lighting. Many tree lighting events also feature a visit from Santa, himself, who may hand out small gifts.
Growing up, our community “tree” happened to be the big one in Rockerfellar Center. Today, the tree lighting we attend is a a more modest affair, but much more personal. We know pretty much all of the families that attend, although none of us has figured out yet who plays Santa. We all look forward to our local tree lighting event each year.
There are several ways that you can find out about tree lighting events. You may see notice of these events posted at local public places, such as the library, town hall or post office. These events may be listed in newspapers and community bulletin boards or the local community channel of on television.
Often, people will talk about such events on Facebook, so if you haven’t yet become a fan of your local community fan page, this is a good reason to do so now. Attending a tree lighting is another way to have fun this holiday season.
