In previous blogs I encouraged you to conduct periodic photo evaluations in an effort to recognize and break bad habits, and ultimately snap more frameworthy pictures. However, if you have the time and money you could take the extra step of enrolling in a photography workshop.
Photo workshops are offered in virtually every city in the United States. A good place to look for available workshops is by contacting your local photo club or checking with employees at your favorite camera store. Otherwise, you could simply search the Internet for workshops being offered in locations you are planning to travel to in the near future.
That’s exactly what my friend did when her husband asked if she would like to tag along on an upcoming business trip to Savannah, Georgia. A company called Radiant Vista is offering a 4-day workshop in Savannah from April 23 to 27. For $900 you will receive course instruction at the Promenade Hotel (workshop students will be offered discount room rates). Accommodations, meals, and transportation are extra and you must bring your own digital SLR camera.
The workshop is intended to provide a foundation for photographers advancing to digital SLR photography from automatic digital or film cameras. The workshop includes lectures, class critiques, and one-on-one evaluations. It also provides instruction on the technical aspects of using your camera in manual mode and tips on creating quality compositions. You will also be given the opportunity to tour and photograph the city’s massive live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, antebellum mansions, hidden gardens, and legendary cemeteries.
If you can’t make it to Savannah this April Radiant Vista is also offering multi-day courses in other locations around the United States throughout the year. The company was founded by professional photographers to help educate others who have a passion for taking pictures and has an outstanding reputation.
