Author Interview — Gabriella Goddard

gulpToday we are joined by Gabriella Goddard, author of a new self-help book entitled “Gulp!” Gabriella, thank you for joining us today. Can you tell us a little about this new release? It has a great title, by the way.

“Gulp!” is aimed at people who are facing a challenge in their life and are confused about what to do next. Using the latest life coaching techniques, “Gulp!” provides people with a 7 day crash course showing them how to master their fear, step outside their comfort zone and take that leap of faith. This is exactly the same journey I went on when I faced one of the biggest challenges of my life – a breast cancer scare. And if there’s one thing this experience taught me is that where there is trouble, there’s always an opportunity. My breast cancer scare became the catalyst to fulfilling my childhood dream of being a published author. I hope that “Gulp!” helps other people in the same way – hopefully without the wake up call!

I was reading your blog a little while ago and noticed that “Gulp!” will teach people how to stop living passively. What does it mean to live passively, and what is the more healthy alternative?

You just need to read the front page of any newspaper and you’ll see stories of people losing their homes and losing their jobs. We are facing a period of global recession and this will affect every one of us in some way or another. That’s why there’s never been a better time to “give up living passively.” We need to take a good hard look at our lives and ask; “How happy am I?”, What do I truly want in my life?” and “How can I turn this situation into a catalyst for change in my life?”

“Gulp!” coaches people step-by-step through this reality check helping them to get greater clarity about what changes need to be made, determining what’s really important and putting a plan in place to turn these ideas into action. The question to ask yourself, is “If not now…then when?”

On your site, I noticed that you’re offering a free kit to help people jumpstart their goals and dreams. What is included in that kit?

Yes, at the moment I’m offering our thirty-day “One Big Gulp!” downloadable eKit for free. Note that this will change next month, so if you want to download a copy then you best do it today. This includes a 25 page eWorkbook, daily inspirational emails for 30 days, weekly podcasts and the chance to win free coaching sessions. So if there’s a change you want to make in your life, the “One Big Gulp!” eKit will might just give you the kick up the butt you need!

What kinds of fears do you work on overcoming? Is this a system that can be used to conquer all types of fears, or mainly fear of success?

Fear is one of the biggest obstacles to people living a happy and fulfilled life. One of the biggest ones that I come across is the “fear of the unknown.” It’s incredible how debilitating this can be. People can get really stuck – they can’t go back, but they can’t move forward either. One of the best ways to overcome the “fear of the unknown” is with research. This can mean researching on Google, talking to people who have gone through a similar situation, reading a book or actually do a “dress rehearsal” for yourself. As you plug the gap of the unknown, you naturally feel more confident.

I’ve written “Gulp!” to help people overcome all sorts of fears. That’s because all fears starts in the brain, and if you can learn to master your mind you can easily master your fear!

I saw that you also do a podcast. Can you tell us about that?

I’m really excited to announce that we’re just launching the “Gulp! & Go Show” which is a regular podcast covering the key insights from “Gulp!” as well as short interviews with people who have stepped outside their comfort zone and faced their fears. You can listen to the first one here.
