Author Interview – Kamilla Reid, on What’s Ahead for Root

adacsWe are joined again by Kamilla Reid, author of “The Questory of Root Karbunkulus,” a fun new young adult fantasy novel. If you missed our first installment, click here to get caught up.

Kamilla, are we to anticipate any crushes between the characters, or will it all be strictly friendship?

Oh, crushes shall abound! Many a smitten heart and even shameless necking! However, Root won’t meet her match until Book 3.

My favorite character is Betty, the wisteria vine. How did you come up with the idea for her?

It’s funny because, next to the Hovermutts, Betty is clearly one of the most loved characters! The funny part is that, after a few agent rejections (where they read only the first five pages, which, as you know is Betty’s big scene) I began to doubt Betty and was even thinking of cutting her out of the story all together! I’m glad I stuck to my guns!

What are your favorite books?

Gosh, there are so many! I loved “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl as a child. Loved it! More recently am so loving the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Man, that guy is funny!

What is your writing schedule like?

I write early in the morning…really early…some, like my daughter, Tylar would say ‘stupid early’ but it’s nice and quiet and one of my dogs, Stogie (yes, I’ve immortalized him) sleeps at my feet. I drink lots of Chai green tea and I go like that until I can’t anymore…sometimes a whole day (if Tylar’s not home) and sometimes a whole fifteen minutes (if she is!)

When you write, do you see the scene as pictures in your head? I get that you do, from the way you describe things.

I get so many comments about how visual my writing is and how the book has movie written all over it. I wonder if it’s because of my theatre background, where it was all about the visual. I must have taken that with me into my books. Or maybe that’s why I was drawn to theatre in the first place…Hmmmmm…

Thank you for sharing your time and talents with us, Kamilla. I wish you lots of luck for each and every book.

Thank you so much for granting me this time to share with you and your readers. It was an absolute pleasure, Tristi!
