Yesterday we began an interview with Laura Jensen Walker, author of the delightful and touching novel “Reconstructing Natalie.” If you missed yesterday’s installment, click here to get caught up.
Laura, thanks for being here again. Can you tell us a bit about the award you received for the novel?
I’m honored that “Reconstructing Natalie” was chosen as the first ever
“Novel of the Year” by the Women of Faith (TM) organization in 2006. Women
of Faith (TM) is a national Christian organization that offers weekend
conferences around the country in sold-out stadiums of 20,000+ and features
inspiring speakers, energizing music and a chance to connect with other
women and with God. As the back cover of Natalie says, “Each year, Women of
Faith (TM) chooses one novel that most exemplifies the joys, struggles, and
the realities in a woman’s life. Reconstructing Natalie has the distinct
honor of being the 2006 Novel of the Year for women of Faith. (TM)”
Tell us about the other books you’ve written and the projects you have
coming up in future.
I’ve written several non-fiction books in addition to ‘Thanks for the
Mammogram’, including ‘Dated Jekyll, Married Hyde’ ‘Girl Time’ and
‘Mentalpause (and Other Midlife Laughs)’ but my writing passion is now
fiction. And humor is the bridge that helped me make the leap from
non-fiction to fiction. In addition to my novel, ‘Reconstructing Natalie’
I’ve also written ‘Miss Invisible’ about a plus-sized single woman who feels
invisible due to her size, and I’m now working on a brand-new series called
“The Getaway Girls” about a group of girlfriends (ranging in age from 24-50)
in a book club who decide to live out some of the adventures in the books
they read, rather than just sitting around talking about them! “Daring
Chloe” is the first book in the series and it’s hot-off-the-press, having
just released in early June. I’ve just turned in the rewrites to the second
book, “Turning the Paige” (releasing in March, 2009) and I’m currently hard
at work on the third and final book in the series (title is still
tentative.)
I’m excited to read all your books, Laura! And thanks again for being here.
