Our guest author today is Pamela S. Thibodeaux, award-winning national inspirational romance writer. She is the Co-Founder/President and Treasurer of the Bayou Writers Group in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She writes romantic fiction and creative non-fiction, and reviewers have called her books “Inspirational with an Edge!” Pamela is conducting a month-long virtual book tour and has consented to join us for the last stop on her journey.
Pamela, it’s wonderful to meet you. How long have you been writing?
I began writing 25 yrs ago in 5-subject notebooks. This I did for eleven years. In 1993 I bought my first ‘used’ word processor, a blessing to say the least (the lady let me make payments and take the machine before it was paid off!) anyway, I used a word processor until 2000 when my mother bought for me, my first computer. I’d always put off buying a computer because “all I do is write.” That was before I knew how much work went into promoting!
What is the motivating force behind your writing?
When I began writing, I had every intention of writing romances. Period. However, when I recommitted my life to Christ in 1989, I committed my writing to Him, praying that I’d never write “just another romance” but something that glorifies Him. So I guess you could say that Faith, my relationship with Jesus and sharing Him with the world are the motivating forces behind my writing.
What are you working on now?
As well as promoting my three current “Tempered” novels (published through ComStar Media) and my single title novel “The Inheritance” (published through The Wild Rose Press), I am looking for homes for two other completed novels (“Circles of Fate” & “The Visionary”) and a gift book (“Love is a Rose”) that parallels the life of a Christian to the words of the song “The Rose,” written by Amanda McBroom and performed by Bette Midler and also Conway Twitty. When not promoting or submitting, I am writing. I have a book of short stories in the works and numerous other ideas. I also write articles and devotionals (see “Penned from the Heart” vol xi and xiii) and I blog.
What is your favorite thing about being an author?
Writing! I often say I wish I could just write the stories then hand them off to someone else to edit, polish, submit and promote!
What is your writing schedule like?
Well since I currently have a full-time job as a Licensed Sales Producer in the Insurance industry, my writing schedule is sporadic. I’m limited to a couple of hours a day so when I’m actually writing something, I write as much as possible…mornings, evenings, and weekends. When I’m editing or proofing, those things take up my normal writing time. Then, there is promotion and marketing, blogs, interviews and article writing that must also be tended to. So I guess my writing schedule just depends on what needs to be done the most.
What books have you read in the last year that were the most impacting to you?
That’s hard to say since everything I read impacts me in some way. Recently though, I reread “No Wonder They Call HIM the Savior” by Max Lucado and “A Heart Like Jesus” also by Mr. Lucado. I’ve never heard this man preach, but I tell you one thing, if he preaches half as well as he writes then he must be one amazing preacher! Out of these two books, the one that impacted me the most is “A Heart Like Jesus.” After all, isn’t that what we strive for? I’ve also read “The Tongue, A Creative Force” by Charles Capps which has truly opened my eyes and impacted my mind to the value and importance of our words!
