Organizing Your Closet

I am always trying to find ways to make more space in my bedroom closet. It used to be a cluttered mess of clothes, shoes, and sometimes random odds and ends that I threw in there. The past year or so I have come up with a few solutions that have helped keep my closet more organized and less cluttered. Donating One idea is to donate your clothes, shoes, and accessories. Donating is good for you and for someone else! There are plenty of charities such as Goodwill, Red Cross, and other organizations that will either pick-up items from your … Continue reading

Making Healthy Living Your Lifestyle

Healthy living for some people comes naturally. For others it takes effort, time and some adjustments to their lifestyle. First take a look at your lifestyle. What are you eating? What are you doing in your spare time? How much exercise do you get each week? How many hours of sleep a night do you get? After taking a look at where you are at, pick one or two things to work on. It could even be a small change in what you drink or eat. For example, if you are an excessive coffee or soda drinker, scaling down to … Continue reading

Working Out With Your Spouse

My husband is not a big fan of exercise like I am. He plays at a church weekly basketball night which is the extent of his designated cardio activity. He would much rather be doing something for the house or yard. It is fine most the time because when he is working on the house or yard, he actually is getting exercise without realizing it. Although I don’t mind doing most my workouts solo or with one of my workout buddies, there are some sports and activities I would prefer to do with him and just spend time together. I … Continue reading

Finding the Time

Is it hard to find the time to exercise? Life gets busy. Maybe you are balancing school and work or busy with your kids and other demands. Whatever it is that you have going on it can really be a challenge to find the time to exercise. One solution I have come up with is changing your daily or weekly routines to add some extra steps or squeeze in a ten minute workout. Doing ten or fifteen minutes here and there can be easier than finding a longer consecutive block of time. Remember that doing something is better than nothing! … Continue reading

Try Tae Bo Sometime!

Tae Bo is a cardio kickboxing workout that really took off in the 90s. The founder, Billy Blanks, takes you through cardio workouts consisting of punches, kicks, and other kickboxing inspired moves. As a teenager in the 90s I would do the workout tapes a couple times a week. Later on I upgraded to DVDs and the workouts got harder. Most workouts are thirty to sixty minutes, and there are also some shorter power workouts. More recent additions to the collection include a boot camp workout, abs workout, and a cardio sculpting workout. the workouts include a warm-up to get … Continue reading

Your Waist Size and Walking

People are often most concerned about their weight, using it a measuring tool to determine success. I know I am guilty of this too, but there is something else I am more concerned about- waist size. Research has show that the size of your waist can determine if you are likely to have heart disease and other health problems. Several research articles I have read encourage woman to have a less than a 35 inch waist and men to have less than a 40 inch waist. Following these guidelines can help save your heart and life. The research shows that … Continue reading

Tennis is a Great Summer Sport

Tennis is a great sport to learn. It is a good cardio activity and fun to play with a buddy. It is pretty easy to get equipped for playing tennis. Other than a court to play on, all you really need is a racket and balls. Tennis Gear If you are new to tennis you are probably wondering how to get your gear. One place to find gear such as rackets and balls is from a second-hand sports shop. If you want to buy new, you can look into sport stores like Big 5, Sports Authority, etc. You can even … Continue reading

Thoughts on Zumba

What is Zumba? Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance workout. It has grown in popular over the past several years, through classes offered by zumba certified instructors and then DVDs. I first heard about zumba through a friend who liked to do zumba DVDs at home. My thoughts on zumba So first off I want to say that dancing is a great cardio activity. When you are dancing to music and have a good time, you might not even remember you are burning calories! However for me I have mixed opinions about zumba. Doing zumba in my opinion boils down to … Continue reading

Enjoying My Spinning Class

Today began week four of my six week summer spinning class. Spinning if you have not heard of it before is a form of indoor cycling. Similar to a stationary bike, but designed very specifically for intense, cardio rides where you can actually go from a seated position to a standing position (while still spinning). A great feature on spinning bikes is they have a knob that allows you to add resistance. I really enjoy spinning class for a lot of reasons. The main reason is that it is a great cardio workout. We spin for about 50 minutes and … Continue reading

Pool Workout

Summer is by the far the number one season for being in the pool. The sun is hot and jumping in a pool can be majorly refreshing. So when it finally got hot around here, I went into my parent’s pool. I soon realized what a great workout swimming and playing in the pool can be! You can get a great workout from the resistance the water provides. This is great for people of all ages and especially beneficial if you have joint problems. Just remember it is safer to swim with a buddy than swim alone. For some safety … Continue reading
