School Teachings Contrary to the Bible

While secular education is important and necessary Christians must enter the education system with a careful eye. There are many “accepted” teachings which are contrary to the Word of God such as teachings regarding the age of the earth and evolution. Christians must be aware of the types of teachings and be prepared to stand against them. How can Christian parents be prepared to stand against these teachings and prepare their children to stand against these teachings? Educate yourself. I remember when I was a young child (I think I was in elementary school) being taught in school that oil … Continue reading

Fearing Science

How do you feel about science? What kinds of things come to mind when you think about science? Maybe you think about chemistry and biology. Maybe you think about doctors and medicine. Maybe you think about experiments and tests. Maybe you think about stem cells and evolution. More than likely your view of science depends on your experience with the subject. However, your view of science is probably also influenced by your faith in God. With all the talk of things such as embryonic stem cell research and evolution, does your faith in God cause you to fear science? I … Continue reading

Teaching Children Through Song

Over the years I have found that one of the most effective ways to teach children about the Bible or Biblical concepts is through song. There are many advantages to using songs as a way to help children learn about Biblical ideas. Songs are fun, exciting, and interesting to children. Singing is an engaging activity, both mentally and physically. Children can sing these songs just about anytime from riding to school or doing their chores. Songs also provide an easy way for children to remember Bible stories or Biblical things. Below I have listed just a few songs which can … Continue reading

Five Reasons to Study the Old Testament

Generally, if someone believes in God they will read and study the New Testament. Yet for some reason many people who believe in God do not have the same desire to study the Old Testament. Sadly, I have often heard people say it is not important to study the Old Testament. Even worse, I have heard people say that the Old Testament is just filled with legends and the stories simply are not true. I have even heard of people who believe in God make those types of remarks about the Old Testament. It IS important to study the Old … Continue reading

Resolve to Read Together

My husband often tells the story which occurred while he was a teenager before he obeyed the gospel and became a Christian. He was over at a friend’s home, I suppose just hanging out as teens do, when he and his friend were required to sit in on a family Bible study. This family had set aside a time to read the Bible. That time was not changed just because their son had a friend over. My husband was not a part of the congregation where this family met, yet they still took the time to read together while he … Continue reading

A Great Barrier to Sharing God With Others

One of the greatest responsibilities of the Christian is to share the Word of God with the rest of the world. Christians should be committed to sharing God with the world by sharing God’s Word, the Bible, with the world. Unfortunately there are many different obstacles which can prevent the Christian from sharing God with others. Sometimes things such as a work or school can get in the way. Sometimes family can get in the way. Sometimes the Christian’s own insecurities about themselves will get in the way. Sin will always get in the way of sharing God with others. … Continue reading

Devotions of Truth

What is truth? Does the truth change or does it stay the same? Who determines truth? Is the truth different for everyone? Is the truth different depending on the situation? Do we have to obey or live our lives based upon truth? The questions listed above are just a few of the many types of questions people, including Christians and nonchristians, ask about truth. In fact, many people spend their entire lives searching for truth. For the Christian, it is easy to answer the questions above through a study of God’s Word. The Bible is very clear concerning truth. (As … Continue reading

My Year’s Reflections

The older I am getting (I know I am not that old), the more I appreciate how much things change for the good or bad as time passes. For instance, in the category of “bad” I have gained a lot of weight and become somewhat lazy. However, in the “good” category I have grown and matured in many different ways. I thought I would share the things I can see in my life (especially spiritually) that have changed for the good and consider how I could have done better. I hope this article to be an encouragement to you. Relationships. … Continue reading

The Words

The words. The words of the songs I sing each Sunday in my worship of the Lord, the Creator of the universe. The words. Do the words I sing matter? Do I know what words I am singing? Do I really need to understand the meaning of all those words? Do I really need to understand the meaning of what I am singing? Does it really matter if I am paying attention to the words that are coming off my lips? I strongly believe that the words of the songs I sing in worship matter. It is important that the … Continue reading

Struggling to Focus

If you are anything like me you may struggle time to time with keeping focus during worship to God. I am not sure what it is, but sometimes my mind really gets to wandering and the next thing I know I am not thinking about what I am singing or reading or listening to, but rather what I am going to eat for lunch, the afternoon baseball game (yes, I am a baseball fan), or how long of a nap I might get that afternoon. I absolutely hate that I allow my mind wander and it is one of the … Continue reading
