Photographing Hot Air Balloons

The Friday Field Trip photos have been uploaded to my site. The balloons did not actually fly last Friday, but I have plenty of photos to share with you from previous outings. I used to crew for Red Rock and Sky High Balloons, both companies owned by Mark and Patricia Stewart, of Sedona AZ. You can check out their website, and if you do book a flight, please let them know that you heard about them from me. I want to make sure I get my commission check. The photos posted on my gallery this week are photos from another … Continue reading

Digital Camera Auction Sites

We’ve talked about what to look for when buying a digital camera, but where do you buy them? If you live in a larger city, there is probably a camera store nearby. But, for the rest of us small town folks, that may not be an option. I could travel to Phoenix or Flagstaff, but they are 90 and 50 miles away, respectively. It is much easier for me, not to mention more convenient, to make a purchase online. Everyone knows that you can find a good deal on Ebay, but who knows about other auction sites, like Overstock, Liquidation.com, … Continue reading

Digital Camera News

The global market for digital cameras will reach 100 million in 2007, according to leading digital camera makers in Taiwan. 80-90 million units will be sold this year, and sales will continue to rise due to fast growing demand in new markets. Retail sales prices of digital cameras will generally fall with continued drops in OEM prices, and this will push up demand in new markets, mainly in China, India, Brazil and other Latin American countries. Low-end models priced at $99-199 will be the mainstay of the demand. Taiwan-based makers, with competitive production costs, are likely to account for a … Continue reading

Field Trip Friday Pictures and Info

Well, the Friday field trip pictures are finally up on my gallery page! These are from two weeks ago, and were from the close to home photo shoot. They are not much to look at, other than the lighting. I took three pictures of some flowers that were planted in a pot, and used flash with two of them, and no flash with the other. They are a good illustration of what happens when you use flash that is too strong for the subject when you are photographing outside. The background will become very dark and sometimes entirely black. If … Continue reading

Another, Easier Way to Do Windows

I talked about how to do windows in an earlier post, and want to let you know that is not the only way to do it. Another, equally effective, and perhaps easier way is as follows: When shooting the interior of a home or business, and when there is a window in the scene, shoot at least two exposures of the exact same shot. Take one shot that is properly exposed for the interior, and one that is exposed for the outside light pouring in through the window. The exposure for the outside is probably at least one stop over … Continue reading

How to do Windows

In a previous post, I discussed being creative with your photos, and showed you how to make a black and white photo with a little color added. Today, I want to show you how to do windows. Not how to clean them or how to run the operating system by the same name, but how to take photos of interiors of homes. Many times, you will be taking photos of an interior of a home or business, and it will be sunny outside. There will be light streaming in through the windows, and the interior will be darker. Digital cameras … Continue reading
