Collecting Direct Sales Businesses

If you are looking for a business, you are probably overwhelmed by all the different options there are! I have to admit, I was lucky. When I chose my first and main business, I wasn’t even looking. I went to my first Discovery Toys party when Alex was 18 months and loved the toys. I had actually seen the toys before and did like them, but at that time I had no kids. The consultant I had met had asked me to join the biz when she saw how much I loved the toys, but I had no need for … Continue reading

Business License

Do you have a business license? If you are doing any business in a state, even just $5, you need to have a license or you can get in trouble. (If you are doing a Direct Sales business where the company remits the tax, you are exempt). This morning I woke up to an email from a States Sales Tax director. I had done an event in that state, and though I did not sell anything, he wanted his money. Now, I had a customer buy off the company provided website where no sales tax is charged, and let him … Continue reading

Working with Kids under Feet

Guest Blogger. Uggghhhh. It is not as easy to work from home with kids under foot as you may think. I now remember why I had “retired” from writing for a while. Imagine: you are sitting down with your deepest thoughts and have your article all planned out. You pull out your notes, review them and sit down to write, then suddenly “Potty! Potty! Potty!” or “Mommmmmmmyyyyyyyyy! Billy hit me!” Even when you have prepared the children with everything you can possibly think of including a movie, popcorn, and juice. Even if you take them potty before you start work … Continue reading

The Holidays are Over!

Actually, when I wrote the titles, I realized that when I think of the Holidays, I think of our High Holidays of Rosh Hashannah (our Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (our day of atonement). However, when I refer to them here, I refer to the Happy Hannukwanistmas and new year. Yes, finally, the “holidays” of Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year’s are done! My son is back in school and life is finally getting back to normal. Watching the Christmas season go by is always exhausting, and we don’t even celebrate it! During Hanukkah, we shouldn’t have to worry about … Continue reading

The Background Check

If you are looking to get a work from home job, you may be required to get a background check (and pay for it! However, you will not send any money for the background check to the company that hired you.) I have to admit when I applied for the online tutoring job, I did not think about how they find out if I’m a good or bad person. Since I work with kids I can totally understand why they would want to have a background check done. I have to admit, I was a little nervous. I had no … Continue reading

Boosting Sales With Trade Groups –are they worth it?

If you are looking for a way to build sales, trade groups can be a good resource. There are many different forms of these. Some of them are good, and others I would avoid. Many of them are hosted on Yahoo. Here is a review of some of the different type of trade and barter groups: Consultant of the Month: Everytime I did one of these I was around sixth on the list. Like a good member, I would purchase the minimum amount (often $20 – $25) from the Consultant of the Month (COTM). Some months I would have a … Continue reading

Following Your Dreams for $

If you have visited my main website, Passion to Success, you know that I feel there is one element that has to be present in order to be successful. You guessed it, passion! If you want to make it work, you need to want to work. In many ways, it is like following your dream. What is your dream job? I have a few of them. One is to work at Disney. Come on, who wouldn’t want to work there? Even one of our bloggers, Tracy Woods, had the opportunity to spend time working at the Mouse. Really though, my … Continue reading

Wasting Time.

I know I do it, but I can’t help it. There are so many ways I can make better use of my time, but I find myself starting from scratch every project. For example, if I have a mailing, it would not be hard for me to prepare everything in advance so all I have to do is put on the address, tape it shut and head out the door. I spend way too much time looking for each individual flyer I want to put into it, printing out things I can’t find, adding packing pellets, writing a note, etc. … Continue reading

Giving your email out on message boards

As a moderator to a few message boards, I often see people say “email me with more info!” Ohh! This is not a good idea for many, many reasons. 1.)Spammers. Email harvesters spend time combing message boards looking for email addresses to add to their list to either spam or sell. All that means for you is more junk mail. 2.)Solicitors. Now you have invited anyone and everyone to solicit you with their information. These people will email you once hoping you’ll respond. Though some of what you get will be legit, you will get a ton of scams sent … Continue reading

The Hype!

You see the ads all over: *Make $1000 your first week! *Don’t miss out on vacations, cars and financial freedom. *Never “work” again! *Make tons of money, no selling! You go to the website to find out more and all you find are words, pictures of people on vacation, in front of a dream home, on a beach, more words, a few quotes from those who made it rich in one week; all painting a picture of living the life of luxury without having to lift a finger! The only way to find out more is to fill out a … Continue reading
