Planning a Trip? Remember Your Diet

You’re planning a trip or going on vacation. You’ve packed all of the kiddie stuff: electronic devices, books, blankets, bikes, and scooters. You’ve planned for every possible situation but what about your diet? Where are your workout clothes? Did you remember your tennis shoes? Vacation is not the time to completely relax. You may want to sample the local cuisine and that’s fine as long as you consider what goes into your mouth. You don’t want to worry about your waist when you get home. Don’t talk yourself into thinking about it later. What is the likelihood that you’ll get … Continue reading

Do You Have a Routine?

When my children started school, we developed a routine. After school they came in, had a snack, did their homework, and then they could play. They still follow this routine although they are much older. They became accustomed to the pattern after constant repetition. The same could work for you. Do you need a routine to be consistent in your weight loss goals? Don’t stop at one. Create alternate routines so that you don’t get bored. I can tell you that I’m still looking for a way to make exercise a daily routine. I walk daily but it isn’t enough. … Continue reading

Oil: How Much is Enough?

Lately, have you thought about the amount of oil in your diet? According to the USDA, much of our oil intake can be found in the foods we consume. The recommended daily allowance varies based on an individual’s age, sex, and degree of exercise. For example, a woman between the ages of 31-50 should consume five teaspoons of oil. A man in this age group should consume six teaspoons. These amounts are for those who are somewhat active, getting less than thirty minutes of physical activity, whether it’s gardening, hiking, or dancing. I’m in the above age group. Constant staples … Continue reading

You: The Success Story

When the weekend comes, what do you do? Do you go, go, go or stay in bed? May I make a suggestion? When Saturday comes, pretend it’s Monday, and get moving. Set your alarm clock for the time you normally wake up, during the week, and head to the gym. Don’t have a gym membership? Put on your sweats and sneakers; turn on the television and workout to one of the early morning exercise programs. I think you know where I’m going with this; you need to exercise. Practically every book that I’ve read combines a balanced diet with regular … Continue reading

Figure: For the Plus-Size Woman

I wanted to be a model when I was a teenager, but the folks at the modeling school said that I was average. It didn’t mean that I couldn’t model. They meant that I didn’t have legs up to my ears and I wasn’t very thin. Between you and me, I still want to model. Once, I was in a fashion show, modeling plus-size clothes, and I felt fabulous. At the end, I had the option to buy the things that I wore, at a discount. Well, it wasn’t free…but a deal is a deal. You’re probably wondering what this … Continue reading

A Simple Plan for Weight Loss

While I fine-tune my diet, I’m researching what other people are doing. I look for people who have maintained weight loss for a number of years. After all, they must be doing something right. Sometimes, I come across experts who really explain issues with weight loss in a way that I can understand. Although knowing the science behind their reasoning is helpful, I don’t have the time, patience, or attention span to muddle through a bunch of five dollar words or a gazillion pages of text. Give it to me straight and let me see if I can work with … Continue reading

Ear Stapling: A Weight Loss Solution?

According to the January/February 2007 issue of Health magazine, Mississippi and Arkansas are the only states that require medical professionals to perform ear stapling. However, this doesn’t stop less qualified individuals from practicing this technique. If you haven’t heard about it, ear stapling is a derivation of acupuncture. Pressure points in the ear correspond with the stomach. When done by a professional, he or she will use proper methods to consider where the staple needs to be placed. If accurately executed, placing light pressure on the tiny, surgical staple will cause a reduction in cravings and appetite suppression. Depending upon … Continue reading

Aromatic Packaging for Food and Beverage Products

A company by the name of ScentSational Technologies has created aromatic packaging for: cereal and snack bags, microwaveable trays, bread bags, disposable coffee cup lids, and various other food and drink products. The packaging, of products using this technology, smells like its contents. Two of Scentsational Technologies’ claims are that their packaging may improve product shelf life and that it may cover up unpleasant odors or tastes. A couple of scents they have created are roasted garlic and tomato-basil. I imagine a substantial quantity of products, with these fragrances, would probably make your cabinets smell like a pizza parlor. Scentsational … Continue reading
