About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.

What Was She Thinking?

Today I am sitting here considering changing the school that my kids are currently attending. We had an incident at their current school yesterday that left me rather upset. My 10 year old son fell and landed on his shoulder and then another student fell on top of the same shoulder. He went to the school nurse and told her that the other student heard his shoulder pop as well and that he could not move his arm. The nurse said she would call me and he told her I was at school so she needed to call his Dad … Continue reading

Hard Questions Are Coming

My husband and I have to make some hard decisions very soon. We are going to ask a few questions of our in laws. We already asked it of my sister in law and she refuses to answer. The question is straight and to the point. “Given the fact that we will not participate in a family Christmas get together again because of how the kids and us felt uncomfortable. Where do they see the relationship between our family and them?” It seems pretty straight forward I think but it will be a hard question. If they say that they … Continue reading

I Had A Weak Moment

Well a dieters worst nightmare or biggest dream depending on how you look at it. I have 1992 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies in my living room. Come on this is crazy! I thought I was doing really good only 5 cookies so far until 2 days ago. I had a horrible day of grumpy people and I caved and ate 1 sleeve of peanut butter Do-Si-Do’s. I felt horrible. After it my body went into a mini shock over all the sugar I just ate and worst of all I felt bad about caving and eating because I felt … Continue reading

Medical Information Needed

When you have adopted children there are certain things you do not know such as the biological medical history. This is especially true when you adopt a child from child protective services like we did. We have been asking the biological mother for birth family history since we first met her during the medication of Rebecca. As I have mentioned in the past the biological mother voided the mediation agreement when she disappeared and our letters kept getting returned. I tracked the biological mother down a few times already and asked her for the information but she has repeatedly failed … Continue reading

Christmas in February

Well we made it through a few hours with my in laws and there was no blood or tears shed. When we got in the car and were driving home we asked the kids how they felt that the day went. The car was quiet. If you know our kids you would know that it is not very common for them all to be quiet at the same time. We knew what was going on that the kids did not want to say anything that may hurt my husband’s feelings. My husband was nice and spoke up telling the kids … Continue reading

Cancer Again?

When you are a cancer survivor or if someone you love is you know the worries never really go away. The worries may lessen or find a new place in your mind but they never go away. Today I am going to tell you something personal; shocking I know; well it is not about me it’s my husband. As I have shared before in 2004 my husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer. This week my husband mentioned that his remaining one was feeling a bit tender. Now of course my first thought was crud not cancer again. My mind automatically … Continue reading

Finally an Invitation

The kid were excited that we were going to the in laws but they were a bit nervous too which we totally get. We were nervous too especially we know how hard conversations have been and sitting together may be even harder. We need to have a hard conversation with my mother and father in law and it is coming soon. We need to know if they plan on having a relationship with our family going forward. Being told that they are too busy to see their son and his family before February is ridiculous but this is where we … Continue reading

Open, Semi-Open or Closed Adoption part 4

I realize that some biological or adoptive parents want to keep the personal contact information private. Some fear the bond being too close between the biological parents that it may affect the bond between the adoptive family and the child. I do not want to say that would never happen because I suppose it could but I personally think if the child is loved by the adopted parents that the child would have the best of both worlds. If the biological parent is well balanced, emotionally stable than the benefits of having some form of contact with the biological parents, … Continue reading

Kidney Check Up

My husband had a doctor’s appointment today with his nephrologist (kidney doctor)t\o follow up on his kidney disease. Today we will get the results of his latest blood test that will check his kidney function. The results are in our diet changes has definitely helped his creatine levels have gone down and they are estimating his one remaining kidney is functioning about 60 percent. Considering it was originally designed to only work 50 percent 60 is great. His high blood pressure is definitely under control 115/65! The doctor is a bit concerned with some swelling in his legs so they … Continue reading
