The Parent Trap: A Nice Remake in a Sea of Bad Ones

When it comes to remakes, I’m usually skeptical to the point of completely avoiding the remake in question. After all, Cheaper by the Dozen and Yours, Mine & Ours did nothing to change my view on the needlessness of remakes of forgotten family films. However, The Parent Trap really isn’t all that forgotten. Year later, the original film remains in rotation on The Disney Channel and parents that grew up with old VHS copies have now purchased the DVD version to show their own children. Before Lindsay Lohan became the infamous celebrity she is today, she took over the role … Continue reading

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest Review

Again, during the summer, there are a number of films rated PG-13 that your children will either beg to see or you will want to take them for the enjoyment of the film yourself. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is certainly one of those films. I went to see the film opening night. The theatre was packed and behind us sat a church group of children 8-12. And as much as I loved the film, I can’t help but wonder how many those kids had trouble falling asleep that night. Make no mistake, despite what critics might say, … Continue reading

Jack Sparrow Debuts at Walt Disney World and Disneyland

Jack Sparrow peers at visitors as they ride through the revamped attraction For quite sometime, I’ve been posting about the upcoming changes to Walt Disney World and Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. Following the phenomenal success of Disney’s film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the classic attraction enjoyed a second wind of popularity. An Imagineer puts the finishing touches on Captain Jack. And just as the ride inspired the film, the film now inspires the ride. Walt Disney Imagineers have been hard at work for the past year creating new animatronics and special effects … Continue reading

Expedition Everest Attraction Spawns Everest Desserts

You might think that Expedition Everest’s “charm” remains solely within the Animal Kingdom theme park. However, Disney chefs – incidentally some of the most acclaimed chefs in the world – have been hard at work preparing a number of Expedition Everest themed desserts, which guests can find throughout the Walt Disney World resort. The first two desserts are appropriately found close the Animal Kingdom theme park at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, a resort that allows you to watch the giraffes and zebras of the Animal Kingdom attraction, Kilmanjaro Safari, graze from your hotel room balcony. Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Boma restaurant … Continue reading

Superman Returns or Yes, Lois: The World Really Does Need Superman

Again, I must preface this review by saying that, normally, Families.com tries to focus on films with a rating of G-PG. However, this is Superman and as a child raised on the Christopher Reeve films, I find it hard to believe there won’t be a number of parents taking their children to see Superman’s latest film adventure. Before I get into this review, I’m going to go ahead and admit that I was worried. I was afraid that, somehow, this new film would trample my childhood memories of the superhero I held so dear. My first crush was Christopher Reeve … Continue reading

Preparing for Emergencies While Visiting Walt Disney World or Disneyland

No one wants to believe that the vacation they’ve planned for months can suddenly be at the mercy of unforeseen circumstances. However, just like life, vacations can bring about unexpected “bumps in the road” and the best way to combat these bumps is to be prepared for them. Luckily, while staying at the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts, you are not alone. Disney has many services available to those families in need in order to ensure a “magical” holiday. So, in order to prepare you for the worst, here are a few tips you might want to keep in … Continue reading

Tinkerbell Gets a Voice for New Film

The silent, mischievous pixie of Disney’s Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, will get a voice in a new 2007 film based around the character. Film star and King of the Hill voice actress, Brittany Murphy will voice the fairy in the film, Disney announced at the Licensing International Expo in New York recently. The film will be a straight-to-video film that will bring Tinkerbell to life through the medium of CG animation. Tinkerbell has, through heavy merchandising aimed at younger girls and tweens, experienced a huge burst of popularity lately. The new film will join a new merchandising line through Disney featuring … Continue reading

The Chronicles of Narnia: A Fun Adventurous Romp

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is a fun, fantasy film that brings to life a classic novel with which many of us grew up. Taking cues from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe offers a fun film that plays heavily on the sentimental and religious allegory. The film follows the adventures of Susan, Lucy, Peter, and Edmund Pevinsie. After a close call during the London air raids of WWII, Mother Pevinsie sends her children to the country for safety. They soon find themselves at the estate of … Continue reading

Mission: Space Becomes More Accessible To All Riders

After bouncing back from two ride related deaths (if one can truly do that), Disney World has begun to offer a “soup-downed” version of Mission Space for riders who are prone to motion sickness and heart problems. For riders who have serious heart conditions or experience claustrophobia, this may be just what the doctor ordered. Literally. The ride which, basically, places riders in a large cylinder and “spins” them around (much like the popular ride at state fairs that is usually referred to as “The Graviton”) causing riders to experience G-force conditions as they ride. However, with Mission: Space’s new … Continue reading

X-Men: The Last Stand – Kid Friendly Review

Normally, at Families.com, we try to stick to PG and under films so that parents can have at least some idea that they’re not going blindly into the film we’re reviewing. However, after seeing X-Men: The Last Stand recently and witnessing the number of kids in the theatre, I felt it was only fair that we reviewed these films. After all, love of comics and comic-book based films are usually based down from the parents. So, with the blessings of Families.com, I give you a review of X3. The film follows up on the events of X2 in which Jean … Continue reading
