Hoodwinked: The Retelling of a Classic

People who are ready to compare the animation of this film to films such as “Toy Story” and “Shrek” might be disappointed. However, beneath the somewhat lackluster artistic effort lies a brave attempt to put a new spin on a very old tale. Hoodwinked follows the age old tale of “Little Red Riding Hood” and we all know what happened there, right? The film plays on the fact that the characters within the story just really can’t agree on how the whole shebang went down and how exactly Granny’s recipe was stolen, which happens to be the inciting incident for … Continue reading

Year of a Million Dreams – Disney Resorts New, Exciting Promotion

First, I’m a huge Disney World fan, so when a Cast Member posted this press release online last night, I nearly shot through the roof with excitement. I was wondering what WDW and DL could possibly do to top their Happiest Celebration promotion, but I had no idea it would be this big and this exciting. Beginning on October 1, 2006, cast members at the Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World in Florida will be granted the opportunity to make resort visitors’ dreams come true with the “Year of a Million Dreams” promotion. From an overnight stay inside … Continue reading

A Day at the Magic Kingdom – Tips for Your First Visit

If you’ve never been to Walt Disney World before, your first trip can be somewhat daunting if you’re not sure where to go and what to do. While the parks do provide maps and event details, it can be confusing to the average visitor. So, to save you from hopefully experiencing any more frustration than you really have to (and in order to keep you from asking questions such as, “When is the 3 o’clock parade?”), here are a few tips to help you truly experience the magic. 1. Plan Ahead. Which rides does your family really want to experience? … Continue reading

Disneyland News – The New Haunted Mansion Bride

Her heart beats loudly in the attic. She’s lived up there for years. Never moving from her spot that allows her a nice view of those who visit her. The thousands of visitors a day that just sit there and stare. She must have gotten tired of it. Moved on to bigger and better things. Perhaps found a lonely house in Louisiana or Connecticut. Because, if you visit the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland anytime soon, you’ll notice that she’s no longer there. The mysterious woman, or should I say entity, that I’m talking about is the resident bride that lives … Continue reading

Disney to Offer New Program for Families of Pre-Schoolers and Toddlers

There’s no doubt that small children have the added benefit of still being in that brilliant age where imagination isn’t simply imaginary; it’s real. This is probably why parents love taking their small children to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. For the opportunity to see what these two parks look like through the eyes of one still gifted with an unlimited imagination. Disney has certainly realized this over the years and, in order to meet the demands of parents who want to experience this window of imaginary opportunity with their toddlers and preschoolers, Disney has created the “Magical Beginnings” program … Continue reading

Pooh Wishbands: Make-A-Wish & Disney Partner Together Once Again

Disney and the Make-a-Wish Foundation are constantly working together to help young children with potentially life threatening diseases help increase the quality of their lives by granting the wishes of the child. During numerous trips to Walt Disney World, I have seen the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s presence in the parks as they give joy and hope to the lives of their recipients. Currently, the Disney Company is helping to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by offering Pooh “Wishbands” in honor of Pooh’s 80th Anniversary. The Wishbands, which read, “Always Together, Friends Forever”, are meant to be used as friendship bracelets … Continue reading

The Disney Fairy Tale vs. The Original Fairy Tale

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess who lived in a very big, foreboding castle. With the death of her father, her evil stepmother took rule of the castle and the rest, as they say, is history. Or is it? Disney has completely revamped the traditional fairy tale and while these sanitized tales are fantastic for children and adults alike (and even in some cases, make the characters more enjoyable), many people are unaware of the roots of these stories. Much darker and more literal, these tales forego the musical interludes and cut right to the chase. For … Continue reading

Who’s Who of The Disney Villains

I have a confession to make. I have a soft spot for film and story villains. Unlike their real world counterparts, they almost always have an amazing sense of fashion. While other characters fade into the background, they seem to have an amazing flair for the dramatic. They always get the best lines and, in the end, they usually get to steal the spotlight as they go out in a blaze of glory. It’s no mystery as to why Disney’s villains are some of my favorites. They meet all the above criteria and then some. Disney villain merchandise is some … Continue reading

Mary Poppins: A Film Classic Oft Overlooked

It recently came to my attention that some of the younger members of my family had never been introduced to one of my favorite family films, Mary Poppins. I gasped. I guffawed. I made many noises that were probably none too appealing. I vowed to change this injustice. No little one should go without introduction to Julie Andrews’ Mary Poppins and if you’re no longer “little” and still haven’t been introduced, I think now is a fine time to rectify that situation. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Miss Poppins, the film follows the Banks children, two … Continue reading

Gilmore Girls: Where They Lead, We Will Follow

Stars Hollow. Say these two words to some television fans and their own eyes will fill with stars. Stars Hollow is an almost surreal little town that is filled as much with charm as it is with its own cast of quirky characters. The two characters you’ll probably first meet when you step into the town limits of Stars Hollow are Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. A mother and daughter team that has lived in Stars Hollow since Rory was just one, the two could as easily be mistaken for sisters as they could offspring and parent. It’s around these two … Continue reading
