Welcome Back, Oswald

It’s rare that you see a story within entertainment business news that warms your heart. However, today, there is such a story. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit If you recall on a previous post regarding the history of Walt Disney and how he brought his company to life, I mentioned how Mickey Mouse was originally supposed to be a rabbit named Oswald. However, when Walt returned to New York to secure contracts for more films featuring the Oswald character he had created, he found that the character had been taken over by the studio (Universal), his animators had been hired by … Continue reading

It’s Official! Pirates of the Caribbean Ramps Up For Changes

If you remember, earlier I posted about possible changes to Pirates of the Caribbean within the Disneyland California and Disney World theme parks. Just yesterday, however, Disney confirmed the changes with an official press release. According to the press release, Disneyland California’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction will re-open with the specified changes on June 24 and Walt Disney World Florida’s attraction will re-open on July 7. While many purists worry that these changes will dampen the experience, it is important to note that the ride is not changing so much as having a nice, thin layer added to the … Continue reading

Riots at Hong Kong Disneyland

Disneyland Hong Kong, the newly opened theme park by Disney in Hong Kong, is being dubbed by some visitors and journalists as the “angriest place on Earth.” The Hong Kong theme park held record attendance, filling up to capacity causing many ticket holders to be turned away from the gate. For eight days straight, Disneyland Hong Kong has had to turn potential visitors away because of a record number of visitors. On the eighth day, things turned violent as parents began tossing their children over the railing of the park and attempting to crash the gate. Ticket holders who didn’t … Continue reading

Tower of Terror – Truly Terrifying or Truly Amazing?

In May, I will have the opportunity to take my four best friends to Walt Disney World for the first time. As they looked over the different attractions, the one that really terrified them was, in my opinion, one of Disney’s best, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard a guest express all out fear at the idea of entering one of Disney’s most innovative attractions. As a matter of fact, in December, I sat beside a girl that entered the elevator in tears as she had no idea what to expect. So, hopefully, … Continue reading

Disney Fan Vacation Videos at Google Video

As a lifelong fan of the Disney theme parks, I’ve always enjoyed seeing other guest’s home videos of their time spent at the parks. In the past, it was rare to be able to view someone else’s home videos. Then came the internet. With faster dial-up connections and broadband access, viewing video online isn’t as difficult as it used to be. In fact, if you have broadband or DSL access, it’s quite easy. So easy that Google has introduced a new service appropriately titled, “Google Video.” The great thing about Google Video is that most of the content is user … Continue reading

Disney Introduces New Magazine: Wondertime

In February, Disney and Family Fun Magazine will debut a new magazine to the world of parenting magazines, Wondertime. This magazine, geared toward parents of infants – six year olds, dedicates itself to helping parents nurture their child’s thirst for knowledge and learning during this ultra-critical time in their child’s life. The magazine’s website describes the magazine as a: “…magazine dedicated to helping parents nurture their children’s love of learning. A blend of how and why, Wondertime inspires moms of infants through 6-year-olds to see the world through the eyes of their children, and to celebrate the wonder of this … Continue reading

What is the Disney Vault?

If there’s anything that makes Disney and film fans alike frustrated, it’s the Disney Vault. Exactly what is this vault and what does it means when a film is placed inside of this mysterious vault? First of all, the vault isn’t actually a vault, but a process. While I’m certain that Disney does keep some things vaulted such as original prints and cels, to believe that these films are being drug out of a large vault every time they are re-released is incorrect. When a film is vaulted, the studio simply places a moratorium on the film and halts production … Continue reading

Disneymooning: Honeymooning at the WDW Resort

The Walt Disney World Resort offers an amazing setting for an all inclusive, romantic honeymoon that will live in your memory for years to come. When you begin planning your Walt Disney World honeymoon, known to some as DisneyMooning, you’ll initially need to choose between a “land honeymoon” and a “sea honeymoon.” Both of these options are pretty self-explanatory, but depending on what type of memories you want to make for your honeymoon, you’ll need to take into account what each type of honeymoon has to offer. If you’re looking for something a bit more exotic, a Disney Sea Honeymoon … Continue reading

Disney Weddings: The Basics

As one of my best friends prepares for her upcoming wedding, I am reminded that many people are beginning to plan their own weddings for the year. One of the most coveted wedding experiences is having the complete fairy tale wedding at the Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort. First things first: It’s virtually impossible to completely cover the Disney Wedding experience in just one article, so over the next two months, I will be covering just about everything Disney Wedding from intimate ceremonies to elaborate ceremonies amidst Cinderella Castle to honeymooning at Disney, or as some like to call … Continue reading

What Time of Year Should I Go To Disney World?

One of the most asked questions of a veteran Disney fan is: What time of the year should I plan for my Disney World vacation? It seems like a difficult decision, but honestly, there’s a very simple system for figuring out what time of the year is best for your family’s enjoyment. Obviously, there are those times when you can’t pick and choose your choice of times to make your Disney vacation. Job schedules, school schedules, and other problems prevent many people from making their Disney vacation a reality during low or average attendance times at the Disney World Resort. … Continue reading
