Avoiding Speed Traps on the Way to Grandma’s House—Part 2

In my previous blog I mentioned that the AAA estimates that more than 35 million people will hit the road during the last week in December. And as a holiday gift (of sorts) to drivers who tend to gun it behind the wheel in an effort to make up for lost time the National Motorists Association (NMA) has prepared a list of the worst “speed trap cities” across the country.

The NMA describes itself as an advocacy group for the “interests and rights of North American motorists.” As such, they felt it would be helpful for motorists planning to drive unfamiliar roadways during the holiday season to know which American cities the most notorious speed traps are located. By the way, the NMA defines a speed trap as “any time law enforcement is focused on revenue instead of enforcing safety.”

It’s a definition that doesn’t sit well with police who maintain that officers are “not trapping anyone.” In fact, several local law enforcement agencies took umbrage with the term “speed trap.” They say the term is inaccurate because what they are doing “is preventative as we work in areas with a high frequency of traffic.”

Whatever you call them they are out there. So, without further adieu, here is the rest of the list of the cities by state where the NMA says you will most likely encounter law enforcement with radar on your way to grandma’s:
