Baby, Baby – Look at Me too!

Being a parent is probably one of the hardest jobs we’re ever going to do. Being a parent makes you question yourself, builds your confidence and worries you like no other task that will confront you in life. I fervently believe one of the reasons our babies are born so helpless is that it gives us time to get to know them, to care for them and to put ourselves out there for them before they become demanding or drive us nuts. Babies help us to be better parents and just for a moment – here are a few thoughts on babies and parenting:

  • There are three terrible ages of childhood – 1 to 10, 10 to 20, and 20 to 30. – Cleveland Amory
  • The secret of dealing successfully with a child is not to be its parent – Mel Lazarus
  • We are given children to test us and make us more spiritual – George F. Will
  • The invention of the teenager was a mistake. Once you identify a period of life in which people get to stay out late, but don’t have to pay taxes – naturally no one wants to live any other way – Judith Martin
  • Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children. – George Bernard Shaw
  • My wife an I just had a baby, and there’s nothing relaxed about them. They’re like these tense things who scream in order to fall asleep. Just like adults, only more direct – Ian Shoales
  • The real menace in dealing with a five-year-old is that in no time at all you begin to sound like a five-year-old – Jean Karr
  • As a child, I understood how to give; I have forgotten this grace since I became civilized – Ohiyesa, Santee Sioux
  • Human beings are the only creatures on Earth that allow their children to come back home – Bill Cosby
  • I love children, especially when they cry, for then someone takes them away – Nancy Mitford
  • Children are completely egoistic; they feel their needs intensely and strive ruthlessly to satisfy them – Sigmund Freud
  • Grown men can learn from very little children, for the hearts of the children are pure. Therefore, the Great Spirit may show to them many things which older people miss – Black Elk
