The Baby Einstein Company has created many fun ways for our children to learn about the world around them. With their selection of videos, CD’s, books, and toys, this company is an educational phenomenon! One of the videos that they have created is called “Baby Bach: Musical Adventure.” This episode features the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and toys, colorful images, and puppets enhance the experience for your child.
While your child hears tunes from Bach such as “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and many orchestral suites, s/he will be completely engaged in the movement on the screen. Perpetual motion toys sometimes take the spotlight, and other times spinning tops and plasma lamps will catch your child’s attention.
In one segment, while a Bach tune plays in the background toys with winter themes are featured. Magnetic figurines ice skate on a lake and a person’s hand is seen placing a small toy sled with people down a mini snow-covered hill. There is also a scene of bear figurines dressed in winter clothing playing instruments outside of a gate. It looks like it all cam from a set of winter collectibles. The visuals complement the music quite well.
“Goldberg Suite” has its own segment in this video. While this music plays, circus toys are displayed. Your child will make associations to this music as s/he watches a toy carousel or a toy ferris wheel go around and around. A clock with a circus theme is briefly shown, as well as a toy giraffe and instruments played by figurine dogs with clown outfits. Inevitably, whenever your child hears this song again, s/he may associate it with the circus.
As with “Baby Mozart,” the pieces featured throughout the video are not identified. I am slightly disappointed at this because it is difficult to describe without being able to match the music with the appropriate segment.
“Baby Bach: Musical Adventure” is a fun way to introduce your child to Bach’s well-known music and begin to create an appreciation for all classical music. It received the Dove Foundation Family Approved Seal and the Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence. This particular video is recommended for ages one month and up.
In addition to the DVD or VHS, there are toys, books, and other educational supplements to this video available for purchase from The Baby Einstein Company. Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon, and other retailers also sell Baby Einstein products.
