Did you miss a blog these last two weeks? We had a lighter couple of weeks in the baby blog–mostly due to the Delp Family June Madness. We did nothing short of five birthday parties (this is my husband’s job) two recitals and a graduation. In fact, we were so light on the blogs the week before, I couldn’t do a week in review. So if your last few weeks have been anything like ours, you’ll likely have some reading to catch up on! So here’s what we covered this week.
Saturday, May 31 The Pressure to Perform
I am constantly in amazement at how parents force their young children (we’re talking with the under 2.5 set here even) to do things like gymanstics and otherwise competitive sports. Examine this issue with me.
Sunday, June 1 What Will It Take? A Challenge to Experienced Moms
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of hearing about infant deaths that were caused by abuse. There’s no doubt about it: being a mother is hard work. And frankly, some new moms simply don’t have the support or skills that they need to. So I’m challenging my readers to take one new mom–just one–and make a difference to that mom in the support you offer her. **This blog wins the ‘Most Talked About Blog of the Week’ Award! Saturday, June 2 Babies Are Born to Be Breastfed
As I explain in this blog, this is the title of a new campaign aimed at families in upstate New York. By moderately increasing breastfeeding, the healthcare system would likely save millions of dollars per year. It is well worth their while to do tasteful campaigns to get the message out.
Sunday, June 3 Why You Shouldn’t Bathe Your Baby
Bathing your baby too much can damage his skin. Infant skin conditions like eczema are on the rise, and many experts believe it is due to our own fascination with a spotless baby!
Monday, June 4 Do You Judge Other Moms?
We all do it. Someone’s child is behaving horribly in public and we think to ourselves, “Gee, that mom really doesn’t have it under control.” But this is a story about a lady who actually was brazen enough to say something to me. Do you judge other moms?
Friday, June 8 How One Judge is Changing Infants’ Lives
This family court judge lets common sense rule her courtroom. Believing that the best thing for a baby is to reestablish bonding with its mother, this judge sentences moms to therapeutic sessions where moms learn how to interact with their babies. The theory is that if the babies learn to trust and bond with adults, the cycle of violence and abuse might be broken.
Saturday, June 9 A Unique Hospital for Sick Babies
As more and more births are premature, hospitals are getting better at keeping preemies alive. As younger and younger babies survive there is a demand being created for intermediary care for these special babies. Babies who do not need the Intensive Care Unite but are still to sick to go home, get to go to this very special children’s hospital.
