In these tough economic times, it might be hard to decided what to get that baby in your life for the holidays. Did you know the average toy for a baby runs between $40 and $60? Must have strollers and other equipment can run into the hundreds. But babies need love and good care above all else. They would rather spend time engaged with loving people than playing with a top-rated toy by themselves.
Young babies in particular, need very little in terms of toys no matter what the toy experts may lead you to believe. Study after study has shown that positive interaction with other humans does more for a baby’s well-being and development than anything else.
Still, you would like to have something for baby to open. And the relatives may be asking what baby would like. Here are some ideas for baby gifts in tough times.
A warm snuggly or snowsuit
Having something warm for baby to wear means that traveling for the holidays will be much easier. A snowsuit can be invaluable when introducing baby to the snow or going out for the town tree lighting or neighborhood lights.
A set of baby blocks
Baby blocks are one of those gifts that will grow with your child, foster creative play and interaction, and can be used in many different ways. Your baby will go from squeezing or feeling the blocks, to knocking them down when you stack them to stacking them himself. I’ve also seen blocks being used as cars, airplanes, rolling toys and more.
Baby supplies
Babies can always use diapers, baby food, formula, etc. A young baby won’t know the difference, but you can bet that the parents will be grateful in these tough times. And if you give a bulk box of diapers, the baby might wind up playing with the box anyway.
Gift Certificate for a Photo Package
There are never enough photos of the little one! A gift certificate for a photo package will be welcome not only for the parents but also friends and family who will be able to share in the gift with a new photo of the baby.
