When it comes to baby names, initials mean more than you might think. Keep reading to find out why.
When you are expecting your new baby, chances are that you have gone over every name in the book, uh the baby names book, that is. There are endless possibilities, aren’t there? And even if you find a name that you like, there is a real possibility that your spouse won’t care for that name at all. But when you finally agree on a name (or names as the case may be), you would think that you are all set, right? But have you considered what your baby’s initials may be? This is an important aspect of naming your baby, and I’ll tell you why.
A while ago, I read a study that said that the level of happiness a person felt could be influenced by that person’s initials. That is, if a person’s initials spelled out something that was seen as negative, such as RAT, the person with those initials were more likely to be depressed and in some cases aggressive. The study showed that initials that spelled positive or neutral words, such as FUN and BIN, as well as initials that didn’t spell anything, such as TRB, had no link to mood or behavior that the researchers could see.
Now don’t ask me where I found this study, it was some years ago, after we had just named our first born with a name that spelled out the word TAR. At seven years old, he knows that his initials can spell a word and thinks that is cool. I don’t know how much validation that the study has, but it is interesting to consider this when choosing a baby name. Research aside, a child with negative sounding initials might get teased in school. So Brian Austin Denton could be BAD, for example. Some other initials may also be a target of teasing, such as HOT, GOD (who do you think you are, God?), PU, EWW, YUK, LOL, MAD, etc.
Do your or your baby’s initials spell anything?
