Regardless of the celebration, if you are host you want everything to be perfect. Hosing a baby shower is a wonderful honor, a time when you can be in charge of planning and organizing to create a lifetime memory for someone special. Being close to the mom-to-be, it is important to you that the decorations are perfect, the location ideal, and the food something the majority of people will enjoy while also fitting into the “baby” theme.
During most baby showers, food offered is what we call grazing food. In other words, small types of food or finger foods that people can place on a plate and graze throughout the festivities. Sure, you want to serve something delicious but being so busy with everything else, time and perhaps funds are short. Keep in mind that to make the baby shower a huge success, you do not have to buy tons of food nor do you have to buy only expensive food items.
For starters, you could put a colorful, healthy, and delicious baby carrot and pea salad together. Simply cook one or two bags of each vegetable until slightly soft. Then if you like, you could add in a can of drained pearl onions and approximately 1/3 to 1/2 cup of good Italian dressing. This particular recipe is quick and easy to make, affordable, and it actually tastes great.
Then, vegetable trays are always popular. For this, cut up strips of celery, carrots, red, green, and yellow green peppers, sweet onions, cucumbers, terry or Roma tomatoes, and radishes, along with anything else you might want. For dipping, you can create French dip, use Ranch style dressing, go with sour cream and fresh chives, or make your own dip.
Miniature foods are always a favorite. For instance, things such as miniature quiche and pecan tarts would be a great addition to the spread. The nice thing about these foods is again, the small size without sacrificing flavor. If you can make homemade versions, great but if not, you will find some delicious choices at your local grocery store. Simply check in the frozen food isle, allow the quiches or tarts to thaw, and enjoy.
You can never go wrong making Velveeta cheese and Rotel dip for chips or little smokies with cubed cheese. If you like, you could even purchase cookie cutters in shapes of things associated with a baby such as a carriage, bootie, rattle, and so on. Then, make all types of finger sandwiches such as peanut butter and jelly, chicken or tuna salad, ham and cheese, or whatever you want, cutting them into fun shapes with the cutters to serve. Everyone will be impressed!
