So, yesterday, my baby had his 9 month well child visit at the pediatrician’s office. The 9 month visit is usually an easy one because no vaccines are involved. So, there was a lot of just talking and visiting with the pediatrician. My baby put on the charms. He was laughing and smiling like crazy at the doctor who has a habit of working hard to get the smiles out of my kids. He acts pretty silly at times, and that is something my kids love.
We also discussed eating. Solids have been a little bit of a challenge for us because of his past food allergy issues. We’ve had to take things very slow. One food a week can seem agonizing. I guess it is because it takes a long time for a child to start liking a new food anyway, so it feels like forever before he can actually eat a significant amount. The doctor advised to keep up what we are doing, try to get brave with trialing another grain, and to work on pushing the sippy cup at this point.
He also said it was time for the flu vaccine. Because my baby is a December baby, he did not get the vaccine last year. So, this was his first time. Last night, he slept for a whopping 11 hours straight! I couldn’t believe it. This morning, he woke up with a mild fever, and has seemed a little “off” all day. He wants to be held, and has taken two very long naps. While I’m enjoying the extra time I have while he is sleeping, I hope he recovers quickly. We have to go up for a follow up shot in a month.
My baby also dropped a little on the charts in percentile. The doctor said it was nothing to worry about. He continues to be a tall, skinny baby. But, socially, and developmentally, he is doing fabulously and is right on track.
The next visit will be his 12 month. I can’t believe we are already this close to the year mark since he was born. I can’t wait to see how he grows between this visit and the next.
