Baby’s First Photo Shoot

As I’m about to have my first baby, I keep thinking about her first photo shoot and I’ve realized I have several questions to answer before she’s ready for her debut. You may want to consider these questions as well before scheduling or taking baby’s first photo shoot.

First off, what are you going to use the photos for? Are you looking for a big print to hang on your wall, or are you shooting for lots of little prints you can hand out to everyone you know? Or in this digital age, you may be simply planning on putting these photos on Facebook or e-mailing them out. Whatever you choose, knowing the venue for your photo may help you determine their end purpose.

Second, consider what type of photos you want. You may have seen a beautiful black-and-white in someone’s home you’re trying to emulate, or you may want to show off baby’s red curls with a darling color shot. Look at photographers’ web sites to see what kinds of photos are out there and what you personally like.

Next, determine your price range. This is a big one considering that you can have anywhere from free to several hundred dollars worth of photos taken. If you’re doing them yourself, you may not get as good of quality depending on your skill level and your equipment. But that’s not to say that you can’t capture your darling’s first portraits beautifully. It’s worth a try, right?

I love coupons; it’s fabulous to find a screamin’ deal on something that you might have otherwise paid a lot for. Look in parenting magazines, local mailers, and at your doctor’s office for coupons for baby photos. You may find a studio you love for an awesome deal.

If you’re choosing a photographer to take the photos, make sure you look at their web sites and pick one based on their style. If you love the style of photos they take (and how they finish them), then that’s what matters. If you don’t love what you see, keep looking until you find just your style.
