Back to School: College Textbook Savings

Now’s the time to start thinking about going back to college. For those of you who’d like to get a head start on buying textbooks for a fraction of the cost you’re use to paying, read on…

* College textbooks are ridiculously expensive! The most expensive place to buy your textbooks is generally at the university bookstore. Usually, there are other stores not owned by the college that sell books for less than the campus bookstore does. Look around before you buy.

* Many textbook stores sell used copies for a discounted price. These are cheaper than buying a new copy but sometimes it can be hard to find used copies of textbooks. In addition, publishers come out with new editions to their textbooks every few years. This forces students to buy new copies.

To get the best bargains…

* Internet shopping has completely changed buying textbooks. Now, instead of a few stores competing with each other for low prices on textbooks, there are nearly an unlimited amount of textbook providers trying to get your business online. If you are buying online, you will need to order your textbooks in enough time to get them shipped to you before class begins. Make sure to compare prices for your books between various online stores to get the best deals. Also, remember to be careful when purchasing textbooks online. Make certain that you are buying the exact book that you need. The best way to confirm this is to check the books’ ISBN, or the number located above the barcode on the back of the book. I have been able to find textbooks online for as much as 70 percent less than the price I would pay at a bookstore! To get the best bargains, buy online.

There are too many online textbook companies to make a list here. Check out these links for lists of online textbook sellers:
