“Back to the Future II” ends with Marty McFly receiving a letter and part three starts right up in the same place. Marty learns that Doc is trapped in 1885 and that the lightning that struck the DeLorean fried the time travel circuits, leaving Doc trapped in the Old West, and Marty trapped in 1955. All is not lost though. Doc left the DeLorean hidden in a cave knowing that 1955 Doc would be able to repair it so that Marty could go home to 1985 and destroy the time machine.
But Marty can’t leave his friend trapped in the past, and upon learning that Doc will meet an untimely fate, Marty goes to 1885 to rescue him. Turns out, Doc doesn’t really want to be rescued. He’s fallen in love with school teacher Clara Clayton. But, now that Marty’s stuck in 1885 (the DeLorean has run out of gas) Doc searches for a way to get Marty home.
Doc’s future is in the hands of one Buford “Mad-Dog” Tannen, an ancestor of Biff (Marty and George McFly’s nemesis from the first two movies). Seems Mad Dog feels slighted by Doc, and he’s going to get his revenge. Of course, it doesn’t help that Mad Dog also has eyes for Clara, but she wants nothing to do with him.
The “Back to the Future” Trilogy ends happily for all involved (except for Biff and Mad Dog). It’s probably one of the few movie and sequels that are nearly as good as the first movie and are just a lot of fun to watch (I couldn’t even count the number of times we’ve seen these movies). The rock band ZZTop has a cameo during the dance scene. They are members of the band.
You can catch it this month on the AMC cable station. It airs January 28th at 5:30 p.m. and January 29th at 9:00 a.m. It is rated PG and does contain some language (though most is edited if you watch it on TV).
