Bad Work Habits: Get Rid of Them!

For some, this blog may seem obvious and even trite but for some others, I know, there will be a moment of epiphany. The reason for this is because some people are smart and others, well others, aren’t so smart, to be polite. If you are lucky enough to have a job that pays your bills and puts food on your table, don’t be a jerk and jeopardize it with behavior that is so over the top that it was probably never contained in the first place. Consider some of the following situations, and in the words of Mark Twain, revel in the fact that few things are more annoying than a good example.

Do not ever lie to your boss about anything (except maybe your age, if you are a woman). I once knew of a man who actually forged his own credentials and got away with it for a few months until a visiting professor who had been cited as one of his mentors revealed that he had never heard of him. Your past will come back to haunt you like a bite on the ass, and it will not go away (like other bites in that region usually do.

Okay, you might say, I would never do anything like THAT. Well, how about cursing your boss in front of everyone except the fortunate fellow or woman? Not only does such action mark you as a coward, but also a stupid coward to boot. Ask yourself, why am I doing this and slap yourself in the face while you are asking. (You deserve it and don’t wait until after you ask the question because you might change your mind). Seriously folks, why bad mouth your boss? What will that accomplish? If you are mad about something, face that person head-on like a Mack truck. They will respect you for it (if you don’t run them over, that is).

Be grateful to your boss and for your job. Think before you speak. The job you save may be your own.
