Baggie Omelets

Here is a cute idea that can help you introduce the art of cooking to your kids. The reason this method works so well, is because kids love to experiment. With baggie omelets, they get the chance to have fun, as well as make their own healthy meal.

The baggie omelets idea also works as a fun way to feed and entertain friends at last minute spontaneous gatherings in your home.

First, you will need to gather your supplies:

Ziploc freezer bags (they must be the freezer kind in order to hold up to the cooking).

Two eggs for each person making an omelet.

An assortment of omelet add-ins, such as shredded cheeses, diced tomatoes, diced peppers, crumbled bacon, crumbled sausage, spinach, diced onions, and whatever else you can think of that would make a great omelet.

Some additions to round out the meal, such as a salad, bread or toast and butter or jam, and fresh fruit.

Here are the instructions.

Each person cracks two eggs into his or her baggie. You can work in teams and have a partner hold the baggie open for you while you add the eggs, or you can use an empty coffee can as support, placing the baggie inside of it.

Shake the bag to mix the eggs, taking care to seal it or hold it tightly at the top to avoid spilling the eggs.

Add in your favorite toppings and shake the bag once again.

Squeeze as much air out of the bag as you can and then seal it tightly.

Place the bags in boiling water (you want a nice, rolling boil) for 12 to 13 minutes. Don’t crowd the pot with bags. Use a second pot of water if needed, or just take turns.

When the omelet is ready, carefully lift the baggie out of the water and plate the omelet. Voila! Kids will especially be amazed at this little trick.
