Balancing Your Needs and Your Family’s Needs

One of the most difficult things to do is to find time to balance self care with care of others. This is a topic I often consider because it is one that I struggle with. Where do I draw the line and what do I choose to do when I take care of myself? Everyone’s response to these questions will be different. One of the reasons is that we all relax in different ways, and because we have different demands that face us.

Personally the most important thing I can do is to work on my spirituality. If I am reading my scriptures, and praying, everything seems to fall into place. One thing that I pray for is to be able to do the things that are most important and pleasing to the Lord. When I do that I am always amazed at how much I accomplish through the day.

It is also important to look at what is taking up the majority of your time. You may find that things are wasting your time and not fulfilling you. For example reading a good book helps me to feel revived and more able to cope with things than relaxing in front of the television. Every person is unique and would have a different response to the best ways to spend their free time.

It is also important to take care of yourself physically. You can accomplish more when you are not tired. If you are fueling your body properly you will be able to accomplish more. This may mean exercising once a day and saying no to treats. It is important to not feel guilty for exercising, since it may take time away from your children, but it will help you meet their needs more effectively. How do you find the balance between caring for yourself and caring for your family?
