October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In a previous blog I listed ways you can get involved in the fight to conquer this insidious disease. One way is to purchase any number of unique items designed specifically to raise money for breast cancer research. Today, I’m giving you another way to help support the cause and it involves a big name celebrity.
Actor William “Billy” Baldwin is auctioning a day on the campaign trail with presidential hopeful John Edwards and a private falconry lesson with Robert Kennedy Jr. to raise funds to benefit The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. Baldwin’s mom is a breast cancer survivor and established the fund in 1996. Billy Baldwin and his brother Alec Baldwin sit on the board of the foundation, which provides grants to researchers.
Baldwin, who is currently starring on ABC’s new primetime show “Dirty Sexy Money,” told reporters he personally called in favors to his celebrity friends and family members to lineup VIP packages for the online auction. One-hundred-percent of the money raised through the event will be donated to support breast cancer research and awareness programs.
So what was Baldwin able to come up with? Take a look:
· A “date” with “Hannah Montana” herself—-Miley Cyrus. The highest bidder will join the teen actress for an entire day in one of the U.S. cities she is currently visiting as part of her cross country concert tour.
· A walk-on role on the show his brother Alec stars in—NBC’s “30 Rock.” Airfare included.
· Backstage passes to a Melissa Etheridge concert.
· A chance to play a game of pool with Chevy Chase and Alec Baldwin at Chase’s home. Includes roundtrip airfare for two.
· Sing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” at a New York Yankees game during the 2008 season.
· VIP tickets and backstage passes to a Sheryl Crow concert.
There are dozens of other VIP packages up for bid as well. You can view them all and place your bid on the Charity Folks website through the end of October.
