When stories of the Heene family (balloon boy) surfaced last week, I opted to say nothing but to watch quietly. In the end, it is being reported that the family perpetrated a hoax on news outlets and the country as a whole to get attention.
News outlets, the police, and everyone else is fighting mad because adrenaline junkie Richard Heene was able to pull the hoax and steal the attention of America in an effort to grab a bit of fame.
Personally, I think everyone is so mad because they fell for it. But if you go back now and look at pictures of the balloon flying across the sky, it will be clear to you that the balloon did not have enough substance to carry away a barbie doll, let alone a little boy.
Regardless, this dads scheme was wrong and he was even more wrong to put the kids in the line of fire. It was obviously emotionally damaging to the child as evidenced by Falcon Heene vomiting on several news shows.
Besides the emotional damage done to the children the father also constantly puts the family serious physical damage. The family was last seen on a national level on the TV show Wife Swap where the guest mother reported that the family life was chaotic. The father worked as a house proofer, but took no precautions when it came to storm chasing as he often took his kids into the eye of storm with him.
Probably more disturbing than the hoaxes is the home made music video of the three boys singing a wrap song called (exuse me) “Pussified”. …Great!
There is a bit of buzz on the internet that the kids were homeschooled. It is being used as another reason to put regulations on homeschooling. The truth is however that these kids go to public school.
Besides being charged for the cost of the “rescue”, Richard Heene and his wife will be brought up on legal charges. Between that and the fact that there is evidence of domestic violence in the home, it is likely that the children should and will be removed from the home.
It’s just a shame that the parents extreme level of narcissism is further endangering the children by causing them to possibly end up in the foster child system.
