If you’ve got a party, you’ve probably got some balloons. Not only are they great decorations, but you can use them for some fun games. Here are a few super simple games to get you started. For all these balloons, clear out a space and move furniture and other hazards. All of these games work well with all ages, but pair little ones up with an adult for the Balloon Stomp.
Balloon Blow
Divide into small groups and have each group stand in a tight circle, with arms around each other’s backs. On go, each team throws a balloon up in the air and the group must keep it aloft just by blowing on it. No hyperventilating allowed! The group is allowed to move, but the circle can’t break up. Last team with their balloon in the air wins.
Balloon Stomp
The object of this game is to pop everyone else’s balloon while protecting your own. For each person, cut a piece of string about 18 inches long and tie one end to a balloon and the other end around your ankle.
Everyone tries to stomp on other people’s balloons to pop them. If your balloon gets popped, you’re out. Last person with an inflated balloon wins. Play some music during this game for extra fun.
Balloon Skyscraper
You need a lot of inflated balloons for this game, probably 20 or so per team. Divide into teams (it doesn’t matter how many per team) and give each team the balloons and some tape. Masking tape or Scotch tape work well. Set a timer for three minutes. The team with the talles freestanding tower at the end of the time wins.
Sit and Pop
This old standard is still around for a reason–it’s hilarious. There are many variations on this game, but I like this one best: Divide into teams, line up and give each person a balloon. On go, the first person runs to a designated spot and sits on their balloon until it pops. Then they run back and tag the next person, who runs to the spot to pop their balloon. Play continues until one team has all their balloons popped.
