Barbara To Anne: “You’re a Buffoon For Marrying Laffoon.”

Don’t hold back Barbara…

In a move that has made headlines in the entertainment world Barbara Walters took time yesterday to tell it like it is to Anne Heche. The actress appeared on ABC’s “The View” (which Walters executive produces and co-hosts) yesterday and had just gotten comfy on the couch with the rest of the ladies when Walters brought up Heche’s split from ex-husband Coley Laffoon.

Walters, who has interviewed the “Men in Trees” star on several occasions didn’t waste time mincing words and blurted out: “I didn’t think that marriage was going to last.”

A semi-stunned Heche asked Walters why she felt the union was doomed from the get-go.

Walters replied, “I don’t think you always think with your head.”

Heche smiled and agreed, but heck, it’s national TV and it’s Barbara Walters—what else was she supposed to do?

You’ve got Walters telling you that you were a fool to marry the man who is the father of your only child (Laffoon and Heche share custody of their 5-year-old son Homer) in front of millions of viewers. What do you say? “Can it Babs.”

Listen, I am no fan of Heche. I think she is a flighty and somewhat bizarre. Also, I thought it was selfish and irresponsible of her to begin a relationship with her on-camera love interest James Tupper (known as “McTreemy” on the “Men in Trees” set) while she was still married to Laffoon. As a result, her innocent 5-year-old is made to fly back and forth from his father’s home in L.A. to Vancouver, Canada (where Heche films “Men in Trees”) twice a month. However, I think it’s also rather brazen of Walters to begin the interview with Heche by attacking her choice in men and her lack of reason. (Funny how Walters didn’t take the same brass knuckles tactic when she was interviewing Paris Hilton about her party girl/bimbo status or Lindsay Lohan on her choice in extra-curricular activities prior to checking into rehab.)

Walters has yet to address the matter (and frankly, I doubt she will). If an apology is in order I’m sure the Emmy Award-winning journalist will make it in private. Of course, if she had the foresight to make her initial comment in private she wouldn’t be the subject of this blog.

Bottom line: Heche may have been a buffoon for marrying Laffoon, but she didn’t need Walters to remind her of that fact on national TV.
