Barbie in The Nutcracker

My four-year-old niece loves Barbie movies. I recently picked up this movie, Barbie in The Nutcracker, for her for her birthday, only to find out my sister had already bought it. I kept it anyway for my two-year-old and five-year-old and was surprised to find them hooked!

Barbie in The Nutcracker is a delightful adaptation of the classic story by E.T.A. Hoffman. In this version, Barbie plays the role of Clara. After her aunt gives her a wooden nutcracker, Clara sleeps while the nutcracker protects her from the mean Mouse King by coming to life. Clara wakens and tries to help the nutcracker, but the Mouse King shrinks her. In a long journey that takes twists and turns, Clara and the nutcracker search for the Sugarplum Princess, the only person who can return Clara to her normal size.

The animation in this movie is really quite charming. Barbie comes alive, much to the amazement and happiness of movie watchers. The colors are vivid yet soft, and magical in nature. And the dance sequences are magnificently created. After one time watching this movie, even I wanted to become a dancer!

Though I’m not ordinarily a huge Barbie advocate, I do think the Barbie movies are worth watching. They focus a lot on love and relationships, and allow little girls (or boys) to transport their minds to a magical fantasyland, if only for a while.

If you’re looking for a sweet movie for your kids, consider Barbie in The Nutcracker. An adaptation of the beloved Nutcracker story, it will leave your little ones eager to drift off to sleep and dream their own tales.
