Bare Necessities

If you are a fan of the “Jungle Book,” you might be familiar with the tune “The Bare Necessities.” It is a cute little ditty with some lessons about life.

It starts off this way: “Look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities…”

What exactly are the bare necessities of life? They are the things you need at the most basic level. If it helps, here is another line from the song: “And don’t spend your time lookin’ around, for something you want that can’t be found, when you find out you can live without it, and go along not thinking about it…”

This could be a great motto to adopt when it comes to the keeping of your home…stick to the bare necessities.

I mean, is it really necessary to have three different kinds of shampoos? Or must your closet be so stuffed that you can barely get into it?

Should your basement really be filled with “treasures,” when most of those items you haven’t used in years? And what is the deal with buying ten of an item just to save a few cents?

If you think about it, having the bare necessities would probably save time and money. It could also prevent a lot of stress, worries and hassle.

Otherwise all you are thinking about is filling your home with stuff, those things that you have come to believe you need when in fact they aren’t necessary. They don’t add value or help to your life. They just take up space.

Having the bare necessities means reducing clutter and chaos. It helps you to keep your focus on the more important things in life. There is less to clean and maintain.

I don’t know about you, but I am starting too really like the idea of having the bare necessities. More stuff in my home won’t make me happy. It is the people that fill it.
