My last review was of “Barney Fun and Games”. In addition to this great movie, Barney also has many other educational and fun films. “Barney Colors and Shapes” is a wonderful movie to add to your educational collections.
The movie features the typical crew of Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, and the children actors.
The movie takes place in the playroom and begins with Barney as a stuffed toy. He magically appears as the children play with him.
As some of the children enter, it is said that one little girl is in need of help carrying her books because she has a broken arm. She enters with a cast on her arm. There is some discussion of her arm and she can be seen participating in the games. At one point in the movie her arm hurts and Barney makes her feel better. I think that this movie shows a positive attitude for children toward a broken arm.
This movie has a bit more of an educational aspect than some of the others in that it teaches and focuses on colors and shapes. Baby Bop must learn her shapes and has a lesson. The children also play a game in which they look for objects of a certain color. When Baby Bop gets upset because she cannot find the color, the children and Barney help her. They play a game and sing with colored flags too.
The children paint pictures with shape sponges and discuss the colors that they use. Barney gives a riddle about a rainbow.
The movie, as most of Barney’s movies, is full of singing and dancing. The mood is very positive and upbeat.
I really enjoyed this movie for my preschool age children because of the color and shape focus that it displays. I think that you will enjoy it too!
